Also known as: Heterojunction, SHJ, Silicon Heterojunction, HIT cell
Heterojunction Technology — a solar cell combining crystalline silicon with amorphous silicon thin-film layers on both surfaces. Offers the best temperature coefficient of any commercial silicon technology (−0.24%/°C) and efficiencies above 23%.
Heterojunction Technology (HJT) — also SHJ (Silicon Heterojunction) — combines a monocrystalline silicon (c-Si) wafer with ultra-thin amorphous silicon (a-Si:H) passivation layers on both surfaces, plus transparent conductive oxide and silver grid contacts.
HJT's temperature coefficient of −0.24 to −0.26%/°C is the best among commercial silicon technologies (PERC: −0.34%/°C, TOPCon: −0.30%/°C). On a 55°C cell day, an HJT module loses ~8% less power than an equivalent PERC.
Manufacturing requires PECVD deposition at <200°C — incompatible with conventional PERC/TOPCon production lines, resulting in higher capital cost and limited Indian domestic supply.
